SEARCH ENGINES

Search Engines
Search Engine Definition
A Web search engine is a search engine designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. Information may consist of web pages, images, information and other types of files. Some search engines also mine data available in newsbooks, databases, or open directories. Unlike Web directories, which are maintained by human editors, search engines operate algorithmically or are a mixture of algorithmic and human input.
Using Pay Per Click
I've been a suporter of PPC search engines for years. They remain one of the most effective tools you can use to bring quick, cheap, targeted traffic to your site.
True to their name, with pay-per-click search engines, you pay a premium every time a visitor clicks on your link-anything from a few cents to a few dollars.
For example, let's say you want to promote a site that sells Information on how to learn affiliate marketing. And you want to rank No. 1 in the search engines for the term "affiliate marketing course" To get a top-ten position in the free search engines, you'd probably be looking at a few months (at least) of arduous effort.
But in the pay-per-clicks, you can grab the No. 1 spot in just minutes! That's because all you have to do is see how much the person who has the No. 1 position is paying per click, and simply outbid them by paying one penny more.
Then when your potential customer searches for the term "affiliate marketing course", your link will show up as the first listing on the search results page. And each time searchers click on your link, you'll pay however much you have bid for that No. 1 position.
Advantages of Using Pay Per Click
There are three advantages to bidding on keywords in the pay-per-clicks:
- You get effective advertising, because you only pay when someone actually clicks through to your site.
- Your listing will get posted quickly-anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days at the most-meaning you can start profiting from increased traffic and sales almost immediately.
- In order to rank in the No. 1 position, all you have to do is outbid your competitors, which is usually only a matter of a few pennies per click.
Important Tips For Pay Per Click Advertising
Done right, pay-per-click advertising can be very profitable. However, if you're not careful, you can lose a lot of money with your PPC advertising. Here are some tips to help you ensure your campaigns are profitable:
- Avoid keywords that are too general. More general keywords will attract a lot of traffic, driving up the cost of your PPC campaign and converting few visitors to sales because general search terms aren't specific enough to attract the right audience.
- Ensure that the sales process on your site is converting visitors to buyers before you launch a full-scale PPC campaign. You don't want to be spending money on getting the traffic if your site can't produce sales.
- Make sure you calculate how much you can afford to bid on keywords to guarantee you still turn a profit. To determine how much you can afford to bid, you'll need to understand the value of each visitor to your site. You can do this by determining the number of sales you'll get, the profit you'll earn per sale, and the number of unique visitors your site will receive during a set period of time. It's generally easiest to calculate these numbers on a monthly basis.
Calculate Visitor Value To Determine You Pay Per Click Bid Values
Here are three easy steps that will help you determine the value of each individual visitor to your site:
- To determine your visitor conversion rate (that is, the percentage of visitors who buy from you), calculate: No. of sales ÷ number of visitors = conversions per visitor
Example: 5 sales ÷ 123 unique visitors = 0.041 = 4.10% conversion rate - To calculate your net profit per sale, calculate:
(Gross revenue - total expenses) ÷ number of sales = net profit per sale
Example: $145.00 Gross revenue - $67.00 total expenses = $78 profit ÷ 5 number of sales = $15.60 net profit per sale - To determine the value of each of visitor to your site, calculate:
Net profit per sale x visitor conversion rate = individual visitor value
Example: $15.60 net profit per sale x 4.10% visitor conversion rate= $0.63 is the individual visitor value
Once you understand the value of your visitors, you'll be able to set your maximum bid for keywords. For example, you may determine that each individual visitor to your site is worth 63 cents in pure profit. This means you can afford to bid a maximum of 53 cents per click to guarantee that you'll generate a good profit margin.
The value of your visitors may also help you determine which PPC search engines you'll use, as the minimum bid on keywords in some search engines may be higher than in others.
Which Pay Per Click Engines Should You Use?
There is no doubt that the two best PPC services are offered by Google and Yahoo Search (formerly known as Overture). In the next two sections, I will provide you with more details on both of these two services
Google AdWords
If you don't have a web site and are ready to earn tons of cash promoting any affiliate program, the best place to start your advertising campaign is using Google AdWords.
With Google Adwords, you bid on keywords for placement; however, Google Adwords also lists ads by popularity (how many clicks they get). So you may be paying for placement, but unless your link receives more click-throughs than your competition's links, your listing may not appear in the top spots of the search results.

When signing up for the first time - you will be asked to create an campaign which involves creating a sample ad, specifying your destination URL and display URL, specifying keyword phrases and determining bid prices for your keywords. You will need a website or blog in order to set up a campaign because Google checks in real time to make sure your destination URL exists and is working.
Important Tip Regarding Ad Positioning
One thing to keep in mind is that Google determines their ad position by maximum cost-per-click, your ad's actual clickthrough rate, and the ad text. If you increase your maximum cost-per-click (CPC) or your ad's clickthrough rate (CTR) your ad's position will improve. Also, ads with higher CTRs are more likely to draw relevant clicks and qualified leads.
Google's system favors ads with higher clickthrough rates (CTRs), and shows them more often than ads with lower CTRs in the same Ad Group
Yahoo Sponsored Search
lists your site in search results across the Web. So you connect with customers who are searching for what you sell.
Find out How Yahoo Sponsored Search Works
Overture.com which is owned by yahoo.com is the biggest and largest-reaching PPC search engine, but its popularity has driven up the cost of advertising with the company. The beauty of bidding on keywords in Overture is that your site will be listed not only on Overture, but also at Yahoo!, AltaVista, CNN.com and InfoSpace, - provided your bid is in the top three for a particular keyword.
With Overture you just pay to be listed when the search results come up. In other words, you pay for "placement".
It's relatively easy to get started. All you do is come up with a list of keywords that you want to check out, go to overture.com and in the search box on their main page just type in your first keyword.
When the results come up you'll want to look at the top right and click on "View Advertisers' Max Bids" so you can get a peek at how much everyone is paying for the keyword you're thinking about buying.
As an example you can use the keyword: Cheap Autos (opens in new window)
Simply type in the captcha text to see the results. As I am writing this, I can see 28 advertisers who are paying between $1.41 and $0.10 per click.
Now these bids change all the time.
With some other keywords like "hosting", the cost can be around $7.00 a click! It all depends on how much the advertisers are willing to pay. I'm sure they're watching their conversions closely and probably wouldn't continue to pay that unless they were profitable though
Yahoo Search
Pay per click search engines can give you instant traffic and allow you to test new business models in real time. The pay per click market is competitive though. It is worth spending an extensive period of time learning how to write and target ads, tracking your competitors, and doing deep keyword research before jumping in. Advanced Pay Per Click
How do you find the keywords your market is searching for?
There are a number of free online tools that allow you to do keyword research. With these tools you can enter a keyword phrase and receive a list of all related phrases that were searched for either in the last month, or historically.
Two tools you can use are:
- Overture Inventory Search (this may appear a bit slow)
There are also several keyword software tools out there that will help you compile keywords so you can start a good PPC campaign.
Click Ad EQUALIZER Software Is perfect to find Keywords for Pay Per Click search engines. Refine your keywords; find keywords that no one else thinks of, no matter what you are promoting. And, for goodness sakes, keep a watchful eye on your competition!
| Click Here to download "Click here to visit Click Ad Equalizer" |
All you have to do is enter your keyword, and Click Equalizer will check its database to see how often people are looking for that term, how many competing sites are using that particular keyword, and how much they are bidding in the PPC search engines.
A tool like this will help you choose excellent keywords to bid on. It will also allow you to view the bid price of each keyword in separate PPC search engines, which will help you decide whether the cost of bidding on the keyword is in your ballpark or not.
Finding out which words are profitable.
You can bid on thousands of words and get tons of traffic but which words can you actually take to the bank? In other words which phrases which actually convert visitors to buyers?
What I have learned is that the words you bid on can have vastly different conversion ratios. What often happens is that you bid on a word that gives you high clicks and almost no sales which are usually general words.
Lets give you an example:
If you were looking for a 2003 BMW Z4 for sale and you went to google and typed in the word "car". If you did this, you probably would not find that 2003 BMW Z4 you are looking for so you would click on a few sites and be disapointed with your results and then go back and refine your search.
If you advertised an automobile auction affiliate program using the word "car", or "auto" you probably would get a lot of clicks but very few sales.
Why?
The word "car" is too general. People looking for car parts to car shows will be typing in the word "car" in the search. A much better word to advertise such a site would be "Car Auction".
My point is You want targeted traffic not general traffic.
What you do is bid on all the logical words. Then, you watch your clicks like a hawk and see what converts and what doesn't.
Next you cut out the bad words. You probably won't be profitable until you cut out the words that generate a lot of clicks but no sales. Those are the dead wood that cost you money but don't make you money.
To make sure you know which keywords are converting you'll want to use Conversion Tracking. If you don't you'll never know which keywords are making you money and which are draining your balance.
Conversion Tracking
The Great Thing about Googe Adwords and Overture (Yahoo Search) is that they offer their advertisers the ability to track their conversions which allows advertisers to find the words that are profitible and eliminate the ones that are not. In order to use Conversion Tracking the affiliate program you promote must put a special code on their thank you page (the page the customer comes to after purchace).
What I learned firsthand is that it takes patience and experimentation to get profitable The price of profit is study and experimentation. Everybody I know who makes money in this business makes it by working at it.
Is the #1 spot the best place to advertise?
There are actually two answers to this question: Yes and No.
Let me explain:
If you are testing new keywords and do not know if that word is profitable then the answer is No.
Why?
- 41% of all clicks go to the number 1spot.
- 18% to the number 2 spot.
- 9% to number 3 spot.
If you bid on a new keyword and you do not know whether or not the keyword is profitable, do you really want 41% of the traffic? Probably not because you can waste a lot of money on a word that does not convert.
Now, that will screw up your numbers really fast. Don't buy a large amount of advertising from any word until you test a small quantity and make sure the word converts.
So you track everything and kick out the words that don't convert. You have to tweak and prune. You do that and you'll soon be profitable!
Note that conversions will fluctuate within a range due to random variation. Some days and weeks you will convert more due to pure random chance and influences.
For example job websites such as mystery shopping websites convert better Monday - Thursday because people are looking for money making opportunities early in the week and less on the weekends. Music, Movie or Leisure websites convert better on the weekends.
If you are testing and you determine that a particular keyword has a high conversion rate then you will need to determine how much per click you can afford to pay and still profit. If you can afford the #1 spot and be profitable then you should go for the #1 spot.
How to determine how much to bid per Click
Let's say you send 1,000 visitors to through your affiliate link. You buy those visitors from a pay-per-click search engine for a .10 each. In U.S. money, that is $100. Now, let's say you made two sales.
What you really paid is $50 per sale. You spent $100 to make 2 sales. So those two sales cost you $50 each. If you made 10 sales from the same traffic, your sales would have cost you $10 each. What I'm saying is, ultimately there is no such thing as pay-per-click. All you really have is pay-per-sale. You bought $100 dollars worth of traffic traffic. You made 10 sales.
The 10 sales cost you $10 each. As long as your affiliate program pays you more than $10 per sale, then you made money. Your goal is to double your money at bare minimum. Triple is better. So here are a few bottom line figures for you:
Assume a conversion ratio of 1/2 of 1%. That is low for some sites. High for others. But it's a good figure to use as an example.
That means you make 5 sales for every 1,000 visitors you send your affiliate program or sponsor. If you pay .10 each for those visitors or $100, and you make 5 sales, each sale costs you $20. So your affiliate program needs to be paying you a $40 to $60 commission for those numbers to work for you.
If they're only paying you $20 a pop, then you need double the conversion. You better be converting 1% of your visitors to sales.
Let's say you're on a pay-per-click search engine and that primo top spot costs you .50 per click. What are the numbers?
For every 1000 clicks, you're going to pay U.S. $500. Let's say your program turns 10 of those clicks into buyers. You have $50 a pop invested in each sale.
If you want to double your money, you better be getting $100 per sale. To triple your money, you need $150 per sale. Either that, or you need a higher conversion percentage than 1%.
Let's say your program converts 2%.
Now what are the numbers?
You have 20 sales. 500 divided by 20 equals 25. Each sale costs you 25 smackers.
To double your money, you need a commission of 50 bucks a pop from your affiliate program sponsor. Cost-per-click means nothing. You can't bank that. You can't buy food with it. You must have sales.
The point is, in actuality, you aren't buying clicks. The only thing that matters to you as an affiliate is cost-per-sale.
Immediate Success Tips for Beginners to Make Cash on the Fast-Track Using PPC!
1. Target The Right Audience
Target the right audience by selecting the language and the countries that you want to target. For example, exclude all countries where English is not understood by a large percentage of the population.
2. Refine Your Keywords . Use square brackets "[...]" around your keyword/s.
This applies to Google Adwords only.
For example:
- [best anti spyware software]
- [work at home online]
Your ad will only show when people search using the exact words that you have selected between the brackets.
3. Include Only Targeted Keywords In Your Ad
Use keyword phases to target your visitors. Include the targeted keywords in the headline and the description of the ad. When you do this, your ad will show these keywords in bold, capturing more attention, resulting in an eye-catching (and more effective) ad. You should select targeted phrases like "mystery shopping jobs" so your ads will be displayed to people looking for the content that is on your site.
4. Sell The Benefits
Spell out one or more major benefit in your ad. For example, make more money, stay younger looking, lose weight, get healthier, live happier, etc.
5. Include Attention, Grabbing Words In Your Ad
Start your headline with an attention grabbing word. For example, "Free," "New," "Sale," etc." And always make sure that you stay within Google's or Overture's editorial guidelines.
6. Use Words That Provoke Emotion & Enthusiasm
Use power words or call-to-action phrases that provoke emotion, enthusiasm and a response.
Here are some examples of some great power words: Free, Cheap, Sale, Special Offer, Time-Limited Offer, Tricks, You, Tips, Enhance, Discover, Fact, Learn, At Last, Free Shipping, etc.
Here are some examples of call-to-action phrases:
- Buy Today - Save 50%
- Download Free Trial Now
- Sale Ends Tomorrow
7. Sell Your USP (Unique Selling Proposition)
What makes your product or service better, or different, from the competition? Spell this out in your ad.
8. Link To Relevant Landing Pages
If an ad is for a specific product or service, create a landing page for the ad. Include relevant and useful information to convert the customer. Generally, a well-designed landing page will almost always convert more visitors than if you simply sent the visitor to the home page.
9. Remove Common Words
Remove common words, such as "a, an, in, on, it, of, etc." Remove every word that does not absolutely need to be in the ad. Make every word count.
10. Deter Freebie Hunters
Deter freebie hunters by including the price of the product or service at the end of the ad. This will improve your overall conversion ratio and lower your average customer acquisition cost.
This may reduce your click through ratio, but that's OK. After all, you're not trying to target every body, only potential customers. In most cases, freebie hunters will never become paying customers.
11. Use Mispellings
Now, there is another insider's secret to share with you:
Advertise on misspellings (typos) and you will make money!
Example: anti spyware = anty spiware, anti spywar
Example: download movie = downlod movie, downloads movie, sownload movieProjects-Search Engines
The Secret To Getting Listed In Google In Under
48 Hours!”
You may or may not have heard people claim they can get listed in Google in only 1-2 days. It seems that nearly 100% of the people you run across in forums act like in order to get indexed by Google within 48 hours is some miracle feat that can only be accomplished by doing some “top secret” marketing tactic or advanced optimization strategy.
Well, the truth of the matter is…
Getting listed in Google in under 2 days is quite easy!
First let’s talk about what NOT to do. This drives me absolutely crazy when I see people doing this, and is actually what I did at one time as well. After you read this lesson, DO NOT waste your time doing this. I repeat… DO NOT waste your time doing what I’m about to tell you.
The following URL might look familiar to you:
http://www.google.com/addurl.html

This is Google’s actual website submission form. They state that you can use this form to submit your website to their index of websites and it can take up to 6 weeks for your website to be placed into their index.
I don’t know about you, but 6 weeks is a heck of a long time to just wait to be placed in their index rotation, let alone get a top ranking!
Never Use The Google Submission Form!
You should never use this form, or any other of the top search engine’s submission forms. These search engines include Yahoo, MSN, Altavista, Alltheweb.
So, how do you get your website indexed within 48 hours?
There are many methods, but for someone that has a new website and doesn’t have tens of older websites already indexed by Google, there are 2 main ways I would suggest to get indexed into Google quickly. Note, when I say “Google”, I’m basically referring to Google, Yahoo, and MSN.
Method #1
First thing’s first, before I can teach you how to get indexed quickly, you need to know how search engines find websites. It’s very simple.
The way that search engines find new websites is they will visit 1 website that is already in their index, then from that site, they’ll follow all of the links on that site, to visit the next site. Then they’ll visit that website and visit all of the links on that page and so on… This is called “crawling”. Search engines will “Crawl” your website to find new information and place it into their index of search results.
In the example below, if Google were to visit this webpage, it would then “crawl” all links on this site, to find other websites like:

Ok, so let’s think about this for a minute… Let’s say that you have a new website (www.MyCoolWebsite.com) and you just created it. It’s not indexed by any of the search engines. Meaning, the search engines don’t know this website exists yet.
So, how would the search engines find out about this site? Easy… They need to find your site by following links on websites that are already in their index. Make sense?
Alright… now, once we know this, all we need to do is find websites that are already indexed by the search engines and get them to link to us. That’s all fine and dandy, but it can be a little tricky getting others to link to your site, if they have no incentive to do so…
No problem, that’s why we’ll use this method I’m about to teach you, to get TONS of websites to link to your site quickly.
All you’ll need to do is write 1 article based on the topic of your website. Because our website is called www.MyCoolWebsite.com, we’ll write an article called, “10 steps to becoming the coolest guy on the block”. At the bottom of our article, we’ll include a link to our website (http://www.MyCoolWebsite.com)
Once we’ve done this, we’ll visit many of the popular article directories on the web, and we’ll simply submit our article to those directories. Once they’ve added our article AND link to their site, the search engines will visit their website, and then follow all the links on their site. 1 of those links will be a link to our site, and BAM! We’re indexed by the search engines.
The more article directories that we submit to, the more links we’ll get back to our website, and the more times that search engines will visit our site. The more links you get, the quicker you’ll get indexed.
Sounds simple, right? Well, it is!
That’s really all there is to getting indexed by Google within 48 hours. Ok, now let’s move on to another method of getting indexed by Google quickly.
Method #2
Let’s go back to our weight loss website from the previous lesson for now. First…
Go to Google and enter the broadest keyword you can think of that’s related to your website. In our example, it will be “weight loss”. Once you’ve done this, you’ll see a list of Google results.
Browse through each website and pay particluar attention to the Google Page Rank of the website.
|
So, as you’re looking at these top ranked websites for the search term “weight loss”, you should try to find websites with a Page Rank of 6 or higher.
Once you’ve found several websites like this, you should search their website for their contact information.
Once you find their contact information you should send them an email asking if they will link to your website in return for you linking back to their website. If you do this correctly and professionally, they will respond and will place a link on their website to yours.
|
If you can manage to get 1 PR6 website to link to your website, you should be indexed by Google in under 3 days. If you can get 1 PR7 website to link to you, then, in most cases, you will be in Google’s index in under 24 hours!
Sometimes persuading the higher page rank websites is pretty tough, so there’s another option you can pursue and that is …
Purchasing Text Links - But For Only 1 Month
Purchasing links from high Page Rank websites. The easiest and fastest way to do this is to visit 1 of the many link purchasing websites. Here are a few of the better ones:
1. http://www.textlinkbrokers.com
2. http:///www.text-link-ads.com
3. http://www.linkadage.com
Many times you can purchase 1 PR7 link for a 1 month time period for, say, $150. After the month is up, there is no need to renew because you are already in Google’s index! So, basically by paying $150 you can be indexed by Google within 24 hours, with no work on your part.
So, there you have it. 2 SIMPLE ways to get indexed by Google extremely fast. Now, when someone mentions in a forum, bragging about how they’ve gotten indexed by Google in under 48 hours… you can laugh to yourself and know that it’s really not rocket science
