Which Pay Per Click Engines Should You Use?There is no doubt that the two best PPC services are offered by Google and Yahoo Search (formerly known as Overture). In the next two sections, I will provide you with more details on both of these two services
Google AdWords
If you don't have a web site and are ready to earn tons of cash promoting any affiliate program, the best place to start your advertising campaign is using Google AdWords.
With Google Adwords, you bid on keywords for placement; however, Google Adwords also lists ads by popularity (how many clicks they get). So you may be paying for placement, but unless your link receives more click-throughs than your competition's links, your listing may not appear in the top spots of the search results.

Sign Up With Google Adwords
If you haven't already done so, please sign up now with Google Adwords.
Task: Click Here to Sign Up with Google adwords
When signing up for the first time - you will be asked to create an campaign which involves creating a sample ad, specifying your destination URL and display URL, specifying keyword phrases and determining bid prices for your keywords. You will need a website or blog in order to set up a campaign because Google checks in real time to make sure your destination URL exists and is working.
Important Tip Regarding Ad Positioning
One thing to keep in mind is that Google determines their ad position by maximum cost-per-click, your ad's actual clickthrough rate, and the ad text. If you increase your maximum cost-per-click (CPC) or your ad's clickthrough rate (CTR) your ad's position will improve. Also, ads with higher CTRs are more likely to draw relevant clicks and qualified leads.
Google's system favors ads with higher clickthrough rates (CTRs), and shows them more often than ads with lower CTRs in the same Ad Group
Yahoo Sponsored Search
lists your site in search results across the Web. So you connect with customers who are searching for what you sell.
Find out How Yahoo Sponsored Search Works
Overture.com which is owned by yahoo.com is the biggest and largest-reaching PPC search engine, but its popularity has driven up the cost of advertising with the company. The beauty of bidding on keywords in Overture is that your site will be listed not only on Overture, but also at Yahoo!, AltaVista, CNN.com and InfoSpace, - provided your bid is in the top three for a particular keyword.
With Overture you just pay to be listed when the search results come up. In other words, you pay for "placement".
It's relatively easy to get started. All you do is come up with a list of keywords that you want to check out, go to overture.com and in the search box on their main page just type in your first keyword.
When the results come up you'll want to look at the top right and click on "View Advertisers' Max Bids" so you can get a peek at how much everyone is paying for the keyword you're thinking about buying.
Update: Please note that the Overture Bid Tool mentioned in the paragraphs below has recently been removed by Overture. For a replacement tool, you can access the Google Keyword Tool that provides bid amount information for keywords. As an example you can use the keyword: Cheap Autos (opens in new window)
Simply type in the captcha text to see the results. As I am writing this, I can see 28 advertisers who are paying between $1.41 and $0.10 per click.
Now these bids change all the time.
With some other keywords like "hosting", the cost can be around $7.00 a click! It all depends on how much the advertisers are willing to pay. I'm sure they're watching their conversions closely and probably wouldn't continue to pay that unless they were profitable though
Yahoo Search
Pay per click search engines can give you instant traffic and allow you to test new business models in real time. The pay per click market is competitive though. It is worth spending an extensive period of time learning how to write and target ads, tracking your competitors, and doing deep keyword research before jumping in. This is an excellent guide taking you through all the steps
